Just a few years after opening its doors, Bensalem's Amazon warehouse will be closing by the end of the summer.

The warehouse that Amazon began to lease in 2020 will be closed by the end of August, according to the company. The distribution center at 3750 State Road, near Interstate 95, was originally opened in order to meet increased customer demand during the COVID pandemic, Amazon said.

“We’re always evaluating our network to make sure it fits our business needs and to improve the experience for our employees, customers, and partners. As part of that effort, we may close older sites, enhance existing facilities, or open new sites, and we weigh a variety of factors when deciding where to develop future sites or maintain a presence," according to Amazon spokesperson Steve Kelly.

"In this case, there will be no impact for customers and all employees at our Bensalem delivery station are being offered opportunities to transfer to one of 10 other facilities nearby," Kelly said.

At the time, the Bensalem delivery station was touted as creating around 350 jobs for the region, about 100 of which were specifically in the warehouse.

In recent years, Amazon has built or leased several other new facilities across Bucks County including two in Levittown in addition to others in Falls Township and Bristol. The company also operates a fulfillment center in northeast Philadelphia.

The company said it is working closely with employees to accommodate transfer and scheduling preferences during this process. Amazon expects the Delivery Service Partners that currently operate at the Bensalem delivery station to transfer to other facilities nearby, they said.
